How Does it Work?

LakeMat® creates a barrier to the lake bottom.

Its special material and weight system are designed to conform to the bottom like a carpet. Once it’s placed, usually in less than five minutes, the LakeMat® creates an immediate surface to wade, swim and play on. But that’s just the beginning.

LakeMat® begins compressing any existing aquatic weeds as soon as it’s installed. More importantly, it begins depriving all the aquatic plants beneath it of any sunlight, which is vital to plant growth.

The existing aquatic weeds quickly begin to wither and new, emergent plants stop growing. Gases produced as the aquatic weeds die filters up through the porous material.

After an average of three weeks, the entire root systems of all the aquatic weeds under the LakeMat® have died (usually for the entire season). The existing weeds have decayed and dissipated, and no new aquatic weeds were allowed to develop in the area protected by LakeMat®.

After three weeks you may chose to move your LakeMat® to clear another location along your beach. Because LakeMat® is virtually buoyant-neutral, (nearly weightless in water) simply pick up one end and roll it over, like turning down a bed sheet, as you walk to the new area to place your LakeMat®.

It's important to note that you want to clear aquatic weeds only in the area you need to use. Leave other areas undisturbed and natural for fish and wildlife.
